My family has worked with Lisette for over 4yrs. We originally found her to give our daughter English riding lessons but were so impressed with how she worked with our daughter and her horse, that my husband and I decided to take lessons with Lisette too.
Lisette has a great ability to see what a horse needs and determine the best way to achieve those goals. She has always been invaluable in helping us assess any underlying issues that may be going on with our horses or us as riders and helped us work through those problems. Over the years we’ve had OTTB, Arabs, ponies, QH’s, and paints. Regardless of what problem/issue that we’ve run into with our horses, Lisette has always been able to help us work through those issues when other trainers have not known what to do.
Last Fall we had Lisette put 60 days on two of our geldings, and were amazed at the job she did. Lisette was able to turn one of the geldings that was lazy, and didn’t want to go forward, into a horse that listened, was willing to work, and brought his level from a beginner to intermediate/or more. The second horse was spooky, reactive and ran away under saddle. After 60days this horse was calm, relaxed, and doesn't run away anymore.
We have always enjoyed working with Lisette, she has always been honest, knowledgeable, direct, organized, and fair. Lisette really works with the horse and rider, guiding and helping them work together as a team.

As an advanced beginner, I started taking lessons with Lisette, as she was training a horse that I had leased. A year later, she helped me evaluate horses I was interested in for purchase, and helped me make a detailed list of concerns to address with the vet check once I chose a horse to purchase.
We eventually started competing in Ranch Horse Versatility, and changed my training program from learn-to-ride to trainer-in-training. My horse needs a confident handler, and Lisette has helped me become a confident leader for my horse.
Lisette is great at breaking down overwhelming issues into manageable parts. She is hard-driving, a good listener, generous with her time, and creative in her methods to help you succeed in your goals. She understands that all horses and riders are different and will tailor a program to meet your needs.
We continue competing in the CoVRHA, and have earned a reputation for being able to make great progress from show to show and season to season.
Thank you, Lisette!

Lisette came to the ranch I was boarding at as an intern wanting to learn more about Western Riding. Her Dutch roots had her well versed in Dressage and Jumping but to ride with a slack rein and more leather around her was a goal of hers, and it was fun watching her grow and excel into Western riding well beyond what most thought she would. She started many horses at the ranch and brought quite a few to the show pen to win against many other trainers who had been in the business for years well beyond hers.
I've been a dedicated student of hers for 9 years but have known her for about 15. I'm a student who prefers to start and train her own horse, and she was the trainer I selected to guide us to from colt start to advanced work. I bought a 2 year old PB Arabian with the potential for reining and cow work; and we've worked together growing my horsemanship skills so that I am now competing successfully in Versatility Ranch Horse against some very good Quarter Horses. I can tell you it hasn't been easy but when you have someone like her in your corner you will find she will have more confidence in you than you will in yourself.
She's excellent at explaining her methodology, her terminology, and she's excellent in explaining the mechanics of movement, the rider, and the horse. If you really have the desire to learn, to be challenged, to be more than you thought you or your horse could be, then I would recommend her. Stick with her program and be regular and will be amazed what were you will end up and how much you will learn. It's an amazing journey and I'm looking forward to continued growth even though now my horse is 13; and we still are doing new things in our ground work (like how about side passing to you from the ground) or now riding canter pirouettes. Not bad for a cow horse!

Let me first start by painting the picture on how I met Lisette Zandvoort. I bought a 5 year old paint mare that spent her entire life in a stall and arena. I did all the right things by riding several times and showing up unannounced to ride. Everything was perfect right? Wrong, I brought my horse home and disaster hit. It had been almost 10 years since I had owned and rode horses. I had a ton of experience in my younger days but lost my confidence through the non-horse years. Once I got my mare home she started rearing and taking advantage of my lack of confidence. It did not help she also had a lack of confidence outside of her comfort zone which was a stall and/or arena. I tried several trainers and did not feel like they were a good fit for me and my horse. I found Lisette’s website and thought why not. I brought my horse to Lisette and Lisette watch the drama unfold. My horse had zero respect for me, kicked out when loping, pulled me around lunging, reared at the slightest movement or breeze. I was at the point of selling this horse thinking I was in over my head. The biggest thing I loved about Lisette was she had no problem being direct, blunt, and realistic with me about the situation.
Lisette gave me options, the fast option was she trains my horse, and the slow option was she trains me to train my horse. I took the slow option wanting to do this myself to achieve success by challenging not only my horse but myself. My goals were to be able to trail ride and compete locally at Western Pleasure shows. Lisette started back at the basics with my horse and me. As the bond between me and my horse developed both of our confidence increased. We have now become a great team.
I would say Lisette’s quality of teaching is both kind and rigorous, but also patient and skillful, to help you meet your goals as a rider no matter how high your aspirations. She is the type of trainer that has a large bag of "tricks" to pull from so she has the flexibility to work with the unique individual horses, and does not use a "one technique works on all horses" approach. She stresses letting your horse make mistakes to figure things out, using the lightest touch possible with the goal of getting even lighter. She gets results without pushing the horse passed its ability (mentally and physically). But the part I admire the most about Lisette is she is honest about the horse's ability to do the job you are asking of it (and not continuing to work with a horse that isn't going to work in your specific discipline). Now don’t get me wrong she will push you out of your comfort zone, but only when she knows you and your horse is capable of moving forward. She is awesome at communicating theories and techniques and will rephrase, explain or demonstrate things over and over until you understand what she is saying or asking.
Since that grueling first day, I have now competed in several local shows the past few years taking Champion in Western Green Horse for yearend high points, and last year came in Reserve Champion for 19-49 year olds in Western riding. Lisette will accompany you to shows for a reasonable price and her lessons are also reasonably prices. She is not a clock type trainer that will stop when the clock reaches one hour, she stops her lessons when it is the right place for the horse or you to end on. Recently, she started giving lessons to my husband who had very little riding experience. Lisette can teach any age and/or ability of rider along with all types of horses and disciplines.

When I bought my Arabian gelding, I didn't ride him for a month because I was afraid of him. When I finally started riding him, he was a nutcase and would lose his brain almost immediately and wanted to be a racehorse. I didn't know how to get him to pay attention to me and tiring him out wasn't working. He was broke to ride at 12 years old but was like a young colt that didn't know even the basics.
I found Lisette online and looked at her website and was impressed. I called her and we had a great conversation about a game-plan to get my gelding finished and where he needed to be for his age.
I took weekly and bi-weekly lessons from Lisette for an entire year and the knowledge that she imparted upon me has been invaluable. Whether you ride English or Western-style, the same basic training principles apply. My lessons consisted of an hour of groundwork and an hour of riding. Lisette taught me what to do to get my horse thinking and connected to me, and how to ride him if he's spooking.
She has given me the tools to be able to teach my horse anything and I enjoy using what I've learned to play with him on the ground at liberty, and to ride him with finesse. My horse is extremely soft in the bridle and moves off the leg with light pressure. He is calm, connected, and responsive; a completely different horse than he once was. I am now preparing to show him, something I wouldn't have even imagined I'd be able to do a year ago. Everyone who rides him tells me what a great job I have done with him. I owe most of that to Lisette and I would still be taking lessons with her today if I could.
Lisette is professional, trustworthy, practical, and always available to give advice, whether it involves training or general horse care. I would recommend her to anyone serious about learning how to train their horse, whether you have professional or show goals, or just want to be safe and have fun.

Lisette has a knack for bringing out the best in horses and their riders. She herself has brought several horses along to become reining champions. She works with everything from colt starting to show prep and showing for owners, helping owners get ready for and performing in shows. She also works with weekend riders to help them improve their relationship with their equine companions.
She is very honest and trustworthy. I highly recommend Lisette to anyone who wants to improve their riding and their horse's abilities..
I was blown away by the training Lisette did for me. She put a superlative foundation training on my 3 year old filly. I can now take what she did and easily train further as my horse is now so willing and trusting. The horse has impeccable manners fit for royalty and is a true pleasure to work with.
A sincere "thank you", Lisette!

Lisette is an excellent horsewoman and horse trainer. From training young horses to finishing horses for the show ring, she provides a safe, practical, down-to-earth approach. She is kind, attentive, and supportive of the horse's needs and strives to help the horse every step of the way. She is a wealth of information for every horse owner and an expert in her field.
Her horses are calm, responsive, and excellent performers!

Lisette is a gifted and conscientious trainer. When Lisette was the trainer in residence, she regularly made entries on a clipboard tracking the progress of the horses under her tutelage. When my Thoroughbred mare began to stall and balk, and hesitate to be in front of the (responsive to the leg aids), Lisette got on her and without the use of force, and got the mare back in gear. When a young Quarter horse violently bucked off a child rider Lisette immediately and fearlessly got on the horse and got him moving forward without bucking. Lisette is a gregarious and outgoing person who is dedicated to her horse and human students. At the ranch, Lisette demonstrated her open-mindedness as regards to improving her training and equestrian skills as well as expanding her knowledge of equine anatomy and health issues.
